INDIANAPOLIS, IN - FEBRUARY 05: Villanova Wildcats head coach Jay Wright on the sidelines during the men's college basketball game between the Villanova Wildcats and Butler Bulldogs on February 5, 2020, at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, IN. (Photo by Zach Bolinger/Icon Sportswire) First and foremost, I think that Jay Wright is the hands-down best coach in the Big East every single year. He is simply on a tier of his own, as is the program that he runs. For the time being, the conference runs through Villanova every single season and 2020-21 will be no different. As already discussed, the Wildcats are absolutely loaded with talent and should contend for the National Championship.
The Coach of the Year could go to someone who greatly exceeds preseason expectations (Jordan, Steele, Anderson, for instance), but I think Villanova is significantly ahead of the rest of the league. If the Wildcats live up to their potential and spend the entire year in the Top 5 nationally, this is Jay Wright’s award. He’s the best coach, for the best team…possibly in America.
