NC State is the sixth 11-seed ever to reach the NCAA Tournament Final Four. Can the Wolfpack continue their miraculous run and win a third national championship?
NC State wasn’t supposed to be here.
The Wolfpack won just four of their final 14 regular season games and were below .500 in ACC play. There were rumors that the administration may move on from head coach Kevin Keatts. They were tied with Louisville with just over four minutes to play in the first round of the ACC Tournament. In the next game, they trailed Virginia by three and didn’t have the ball in the closing seconds.
But after winning nine games in 19 days, seven of which were against NCAA Tournament teams and five against KenPom top-30 teams, NC State is still here. The Wolfpack had just a 0.0091 percent chance of accomplishing that, per Evan Miyakawa, making it the most unexpected and unprecedented run in recent college basketball history.
This team has caught lightning in a bottle. Can NC State become the first 11-seed ever to play for a national title, or will the clock strike midnight on Cinderella?
