The Kansas Jayhawks have entered the “Region of Doom” where anything can happen and chaos is inevitable.

Kansas may have the most Quadrant 1 wins in the country, but they were handed the No. 3 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament, being shipped to the West Region as a result. The Jayhawks also happened to be the No. 3 overall seed last season, en route to a National Championship.

Repeating as a National Champion is always tough, and given the teams in the West Region, Kansas’ title defense got a lot tougher. This region boasts the top 2-seed, the second 3-seed, and the top 4-seed, giving it the lowest overall seed count among the top four seeds of any region, a full six lower than Purdue’s East Region.

Defense will be the name of the game in the region, with a ton of elite defenses, and Gonzaga, present in the field. It also has the best representation from every level of the sport, with nine of the 17 teams coming from non-high-major conferences.

This region is built to be chaotic, and there are at least six teams who could make the Final Four without it being a shocking result. Let’s take a look at some of the best games, players and storylines that the West Region has to offer.
