While the result of the event may be a foregone conclusion, an upset to the league’s top team would send Bubble Watchers to the edges of their seats.
No. 1 seed Winthrop (20-1, 17-1 Big South) is easily the top team in the league, and they are generating a lot of buzz around the country as a potential candidate to be the darlings of this year’s Big Dance. While the Eagles were only able to schedule three nonconference games, they made the most of those opportunities by scoring very respectable wins over Furman, UNC Greensboro, and Little Rock. One stumble in league play already cost them a perfect season; would another loss in the Big South Tournament cost them a trip to the NCAA Tournament?
