The reigning national champions are still on top. Can anyone stop UConn from becoming the first back-to-back winner since 2007?

Well, well, well, look who’s back. The Connecticut Huskies are sitting atop the East region of the 2024 NCAA Tournament after winning it all last year. And wouldn’t you know it, they might just do it again.

But while UConn may be the odds-on favorites out east, there are plenty of teams that could give them grief under the right conditions. Including the Huskies, all four of the top seeds in this region are coming off conference tournament wins in high-major leagues. There’s the Big 12 champion Iowa State at No. 2, Illinois clocks in at No. 3 out of the Big Ten, and No. 4 Auburn just took the SEC crown.

Meanwhile, there are also two more Final Four participants from last year in No. 5 San Diego State and No. 8 Florida Atlantic. Oh, and don’t forget No. 11 Duquesne, which is appearing in the Big Dance for the first time since 1977 — and No. 16 Stetson, which is making its first-ever appearance! And of course, sneaky upset-hunters lurk in the shadows. No. 12 UAB, No. 13 Yale, No. 14 Morehead State and No. 15 South Dakota State could all prove to be dangerous first-round opponents.
