Missouri Valley Basketball: Season Preview 2020-21

Biggest Missouri Valley basketball questions

Can the mvc land two ncaa tournament bids?

Northern Iowa and Loyola-Chicago both enter this season with postseason aspirations as possible Top 50 teams in the entire country. While other MVC teams can finish in the Top 150, those two should be significantly better than everyone else. If they can each rack up conference wins while only dropping games to each other and maybe one or two others, I think the Missouri Valley can be a multi-bid league this year. I know it shouldn’t be a factor, but the fact that these two teams are already on the national radar coming into the season isn’t a bad thing. They should already be in the committee’s mind.

can anyone contend with the top two?

I already answered this a bit in the last question but it is still a vital thing to ask. Northern Iowa and Loyola-Chicago are the favorites to win but there are surprises in every conference each year. Just look at last season in the MVC, for instance, where Missouri State was the clear favorite to win the league before going 9-9 in conference play. I think that UNI and Loyola-Chi are a step or three ahead of the rest but a surprise could occur. Bradley is the team I have my eye on for this if all the newcomers gel early.
