Mountain West awards predictions

NEWCOMER OF THE YEAR:
marcus williams, wyoming

The Mountain West doesn’t exactly offer a breakout recruit this season, meaning the door for the league’s top newcomer is wide open. Wyoming guard Marcus Williams has the best mix of potential and opportunity among the freshmen and should be immediately viewed as one of the league’s top freshmen.

Originally committed to play with Jeff Linder at Northern Colorado, Williams followed Linder to the Cowboys and should be effective in Year 1 and beyond. With an all-league talent in Hunter Maldonado at the wing, Williams’ distributing abilities will be on display. As one of the top-rated guards out of Texas, Williams averaged 21.4 points and 7.3 assists per game for one of the best teams at the 6A level.
